Vangrid offers USDC bounties for smartphone scans used in 3D models

Vangrid has opened a USDC-funded market for smartphone footage of real places, with a public post citing more than $675,000 in settlements for captures turned into 3D models.

    Summary

    • Vangrid lets buyers commission smartphone captures of real locations and receive reconstructed 3D models.
    • Accepted bounties settle in USDC on Base or Arc, with funds held in escrow.
    • Vangrid’s $50 bounty example pays contributors $40 after platform fees and reconstruction costs.
    • AI agents can post capture requests through x402, with default bounties ranging from 50–5,000 USDC.

Vangrid described the service in an Oct. 20 X post, saying a requester can commission a location, have someone nearby film it, and receive the resulting model while proof of capture is recorded onchain.

“Post a bounty for a real place. Someone nearby films it on their phone,” the company wrote.

A separate post from RifatOfficial said the bounty board showed more than $675,000 in settlements and requests covering warehouses, loading docks and stairwells. The post described payments in USDC on Base or Arc after a submission is accepted, with funds held in escrow.

Vangrid’s enterprise documentation lists robotics, autonomous platforms, simulation and mapping among its intended uses. Buyers receive a textured 3D model in GLB format, traceable to the capture used to produce it, according to the company.

Vangrid bounties pay after a buyer accepts footage

Vangrid’s bounty instructions ask requesters to describe the location and the details they need recorded, set a reward, and choose a deadline. Contributors can submit a newly recorded clip or one they have already captured, with a short note explaining the submission.

Several people can submit to the same request, but the requester chooses one winning capture. Submission is free, and a contributor whose clip is not selected keeps it, the instructions state.

Acceptance closes the bounty onchain, releases the escrow, and sends the chosen capture into reconstruction. Vangrid says the requester receives the finished model, while its published payment example deducts a platform fee and reconstruction costs before paying the contributor.

Using the defaults in that example, a $50 bounty allocates $5 to the platform, $5 to reconstruction and $40 to the contributor. The company lists its platform fee at 10% and cautions that the example amounts can change.

Before acceptance, the requester can cancel and recover the funded amount. The instructions say a bounty that passes its deadline without an accepted submission closes with the reward returned.

    Onchain records preserve capture fingerprints

Vangrid’s verification documentation describes three live checks covering incoming footage, capture fingerprints, and anchoring those fingerprints on Base. Incoming clips are checked for video quality and length, consistency between camera and location signals, and duplication against existing captures.

Each fingerprint contains a content hash, an approximate location code, and a timestamp. The company groups fingerprints into a Merkle tree and records its root on Base, closing a new batch roughly every 15 minutes.

The documentation says anchoring establishes existence, ordering and integrity, while the recording’s content requires separate checks. Hardware-backed device attestation, sensor cross-correlation, and independent verification backed by collateral are listed as not yet live.

While recording, the app detects and blurs faces and vehicle license plates before encoding the video, Vangrid’s capture guide says. Contributors can use a browser or Android app, and the guide advises walking slowly around a subject while keeping the phone steady.

For enterprise deployments, Vangrid lists a US data region alongside European and Asia-Pacific options. Its enterprise page says regional access requires configuration and that access remains available on a pilot basis.

AI agents can commission people through x402

Vangrid’s agent documentation, last modified Sep. 30, describes software posting a bounty through a paid HTTP request. An agent supplies a title, capture brief, USDC amount, and deadline, then pays on Base or Arc through x402.

After payment settles, Vangrid posts the request from its operator wallet. The agent receives a credential for reviewing submissions, accepting a capture, or canceling the bounty, according to the instructions.

The published defaults allow bounties from 50 to 5,000 USDC and deadlines between one and 30 days. Cancellation or expiry returns funds to the paying wallet on the network used for payment.

In related coverage, crypto.news previously reported that The Graph enabled USDC payments for queries through its Graph Gateway in May. The project said the x402 integration allowed software to buy indexed blockchain data without opening an account or obtaining an API key.

Circle’s second-quarter figures put USDC at 99.3% of x402 volume, as reported in August. The figure covered that protocol’s measured activity, while Circle said its Agent Stack supported more than 900 paid services after launching in May.

By September, Circle had introduced Arc Studio, a tool for generating onchain applications from written prompts. Its supported functions included wallets, USDC payments, swaps and bridges, with applications available for testing across nine networks.

Vangrid funding was announced in August

Vangrid co-founder and CEO Robert Brighton told The Block in August that the project had raised $9 million through a simple agreement for future tokens. He named HashKey, Borderless, Crypto.com Capital, Animoca Brands, Gate Labs and Mapleblock Capital as participants.

Brighton said fundraising began in August 2025 and closed in several tranches in January 2026. The company waited until its network was live to announce the financing, he said, declining to disclose a valuation and stating that the round granted no board seats.
